April 7th Update:
Sarah's father passed away early this morning with her by his bedside so
I will be trying to issue updates for the time being. A week or so
ago, she wrote this to me about her father: "As a young man, he answered
the call of Dr. King, corresponding with him in the Birmingham Jail (one
of his letters is archived in the MLK library) and he walked across the
Selma bridge with other leaders. That is only one of the many
interesting things he did."
As far as we know Charles is scheduled to be electroshocked against his
will again this Friday. Charles' mother, Ann, has engaged an
attorney to fight the shock and we were hoping he would be able to file
something in time to try and stop it, but trying to get the legal system
to do anything that fast is hard. So, we need to keep the pressure
on.
I think continuing to contact Shock Doc Vine would be good. His
phone number is 612-273-6113 and two e-mail addresses we have for him
that seem to work are cjvinemd@umn.edu
and cjvinemd@yahoo.com.
It also seems good to put pressure on the provider, M Health Fairview
Mental Health and Addiction Services. One way to do that is to
register complaints through its
Feedback Page.
I also think it is worthwhile to continue to put pressure on James
Hereford, Fairview President and CEO. Two phone numbers we have
for him are 1-651-982-7122 and 425-353-7966. Two e-mail addresses
we have for him that may work are
jherefo1@fairview.org and jameshereford@me.com.
There is additional information about actions to take on the
Shield Alert Page.
'
Even though it is hard because M Health Fairview/Shock Doc Vine are
torturing Charles, it is important to be polite and respectful.
For those on Facebook, I have been trying to post people's actions on
Charles' Facebook MindFreedom Shield Event Page so people can get an
idea of how many people are helping to Stop the Shock and what they are
doing. I think I have it set up so people can post what they have
done, but I'm not sure I have the settings right to allow it. I
did see one that I had to approve. If you have problems posting
what you have done or would just like us to do it, e-mail
info@networkagainstpsychiatricassault.org.
On April 3rd, MindFreedom released and widely distributed a
News Release. Unfortunately, I don't think it has gotten much
traction. At least yet.
We have been acquiring legal documents and posted them to
http://networkagainstpsychiatricassault.org/mfialerts/CharlesHelmer/
I haven't had the time to build a website with links, but tried to make
the folder and file names pretty self-explanatory.
Take care,
